At Stellar Smiles Pediatric Dentistry, we are committed to preventive care, minimally invasive dentistry, and creating a comfortable atmosphere for each patient. With our specialization in laser frenectomies and white posterior crowns, a vast selection of alternatives to sedation, and our small golden retriever therapy dog, Dogtor Piper, we hope to be a space your child wants to return to time and time again. Dr. Christopher Powell, known as Dr. Chris, was born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI. He became interested in dentistry while attending Central Michigan University as he sought a hands-on career where he could help people. After obtaining his DDS from the University of Michigan in 2016 and completing a dentistry residency program at NYU in 2018, Dr. Chris returned to the growing community of his hometown.
Dr. Chris has always understood that a child’s early experiences have the power to shape their entire lives, a concept he learned after being raised by an early childhood educator. His specialization has allowed him to help families get their oral health started on the right path. He loves getting to work with patients to make a difficult experience as fun as possible, and leave a healthy, positive impression of dentistry that will last into adulthood.
When he’s not in the office, Dr. Chris enjoys traveling, gardening, and spending as much time as he can with his family and his dog.

Dr. Chris and the rest of the Stellar Smiles Pediatric Dentistry crew are excited to get to know you and your young explorer! Based on your child’s age, we will gently assess their smile and oral development, conduct a thorough cleaning, provide helpful tips for a healthy smile, and answer any questions you may have regarding your child’s dental care. We can also schedule any future appointments and check ups.
We like to think of our office as our own little star system — open, modern, clean, and filled with cosmic elements to intrigue young patients. Parents and kids can relax in the waiting room while enjoying our TVs with Disney+ and other entertainment, or peruse a selection of comic books. Our kids play area is also interactive, where young patients may be visited by our therapy golden retriever, Dogtor Piper.

Just as children grow and develop rapidly, so does the world of pediatric dentistry, which is why we strive to stay up to date with the latest in modern pediatric dentistry tools and techniques. With our state-of-the-art frenectomy lasers, silver diamine fluoride, and zirconia crowns, we want to make sure your child receives the highest quality dental care using most advanced technology available.
Throughout Byron Center and beyond, we are dedicated to giving back to our community. Dr. Chris regularly volunteers at inner city schools reading books to children, providing basic science education, and occasionally speaking during career days. He is also a member of West Michigan Therapy Dogs, where his golden retriever Dogtor Piper can visit libraries, schools, hospitals, and nursing homes to comfort people and reduce their stress.
